Saat Phere

Seven steps, seven promises

Saat Phere is the heart of a Hindu wedding. Their clothes tied together in the gathbandhan, the bride and groom walk around the sacred fire seven times while the pandit-ji chants Vedic mantras. Agni, the fire, is their witness.

Each round carries a promise. Only when the seventh is complete are they husband and wife, partners for this life and, as tradition holds, for seven lives to come.
